Pune: In the ongoing high-profile murder case of Pune realtor Ketan Agarwal, the local court has extended the judicial custody of accused Siya Goyal by an additional 14 days. Alongside Goyal, the judicial custody of co-accused Chetan Agarwal has also been extended for the same period as the investigation and judicial proceedings progress.
CCTV Preservation and Allegations of Illegal Detention:
During the hearing, the court addressed critical contentions raised by the defense. It directed the Pune Police to strictly preserve the CCTV footage from the police station premises. This directive came in the wake of specific claims made by co-accused Chetan Agarwal alleging illegal pre-arrival detention prior to the formal registration of the First Information Report (FIR). The court’s order aims to ensure transparency and safeguard procedural compliance surrounding the initial custody and handling of the accused by law enforcement agencies.
Background of the Case:
The brutal murder of realtor Ketan Agarwal sent shockwaves through Pune’s business and real estate community. Law enforcement agencies have been piecing together the sequence of events, motives, and roles allegedly played by various individuals involved in the conspiracy and execution of the crime. The case has seen intense legal scrutiny regarding police procedures, custodial interrogation methods, and the rights of the accused during the investigative phase.
Next Steps in the Prosecution:
With the extension of judicial custody, both Siya Goyal and Chetan Agarwal will remain behind bars as the prosecution prepares its comprehensive charges and gathers forensic and electronic evidence. The preservation of the police station CCTV footage is expected to play a crucial role in upcoming hearings, especially concerning defense arguments regarding the legality of the detention timeline. The local court will continue to monitor the investigative steps closely during the next phase of remand.
